Sanctioning gas producers to have irreparable repercussions: Iran min.

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Owji has warned that the impact of imposition of sanctions on the most important producers of natural gas would be irreparable.

Owji made the remarks in the 24th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday, noting that the usage of political tools and imposition of sanctions on the most important states possessing natural gas will have irreparable consequences on the environment and will hinder reaching the UN’s objectives over sustainable development.

Prevention of measures, which will inflict unfortunate consequences on human society and hamper trading of the clean energy of natural gas, should be heeded by states, he said.

The minister also called for improving capabilities and adopting required measures in a bid to enhance coordination among member states of the GECF with the aim of protecting the interests of the members and preserving the security of gas supply at the global level.

The Islamic Republic of Iran as an international gas giant is ready for any kind of cooperation in terms of exploration, drilling, development, exploitation, and distribution of natural gas, he mentioned.

As to the United States’ unilateral and illegal sanctions on Iran’s energy sector, he noted that the Islamic Republic has succeeded in achieving significant growth in domestic progress as well as presence in foreign markets despite the cruel sanctions.
